Ten Great Parkas

Today I bring you a nice roundup of warm coats, all which cover the butt (so important when it’s freezing, no?). Mango’s chic number features a regal faux fur collar, which makes it look like something Ingrid Bergman would have worn tooling around Rome, and appropriate to throw over just about anything from your most beat-up jeans to something a little more dressy.

I tried on this roomy army green military parka made of recycled polyester and down(also comes in off white, navy and black),and felt instantly cool.

I like really like the shade of this gray water-resistant one fromThe North Face.

Here’s a classic snorkel coat with some extra-snuggly lining at the front and all inside the hood.

Another hit from Everlane: this perfect mid-length coat in a nice inky blue.

H & M’s olive green puffer has a slightly avant-garde cocoon shape.

Kate Spade’s parka has a streamlined shape complete with a cozy fleece lining and waist-cinching belt.

I am too messy for a white coat, but if you can manage it, what a great option here complete with duvet-esque diamond-shaped puffs!

Here’s an everyday option, filled with recycled polyester, in a good beige-green shade for under $70.

If you’re not into too much volume, Uniqlo’s windproof Hybrid Down Coat has a less puffy silhouette.

  1. I am a size XL and could never fit into Everland or Uniquo….would love to find a down coat that 1. is at least 38 inches to reach to my knees 2. not too “fluffy” I am fluffy enough on my own haha. 3. has a hood …any other recommendations?

    1. i like my butt The North Face on the is warm, long and goes to a XXL, but it is fluffy. I have a 3 year old NF and it’s holding up well and very warm. (So you can look forward to many years of fluff) L

  2. Parka shopping is dreadful. I wear mine to way past death, returning many an online purchase each season. I finally found an acceptable (warm, not too Stay Puft Marshmellow Man-y and really does cover my butt) North Face last year but hope your selections make the process easier for others!

  3. Yay! This is a much needed post.
I’m freezing my backside off in my short jacket so butt coverage is key!
What size Everlane did you try on? I’m between sizes..
How was the white color in person? I’m trying desperately not to default to black.
    The green looks great too..

  4. Oooh I’m still dreaming of the Fjallraven puffer you posted earlier but alas dont think I’m as cool as Alexa Chung (who also has it) or you to pull that off! I ended up with a retro Northface Nuptse bought two sizes too large so it’s oversized and not cropped and am loving it!
