In Praise of Quiet Boho

Nothing like summer to bring out your hippie side (even the most conservative of us tend to embrace it in the heat, whether it’s super slight or full-on) Today I bring you pieces with a grown-up minimal bohemian vibe (read, no bells, prints, tiers or fringe). Think cool, billowy  shapes in simple black, white and ecru that make you look like a chic world traveler, even if you haven’t really left the neighborhood since March. Let’s begin with Emerson Fry’s white peasant top with subtle black embroidery whose romantic silhouette would lend a little romance to more tailored pieces like pencil skirts and blazers.

This fabulous knit bag from Colombia is a chic steel gray, and a lot like a bigger version of my favorite Lauren Manoogian tote.

A simple light gray kaftan can go super casual or elegantly dressed up for a summer night out.

I have always had a thing for classic huaraches, which can instantly take a pair of chinos and a white tee somewhere cool. And I would also love them with a black tee and black jeans. This pair has a feminine ankle strap and will only get better with age.

Madewell’s beaded necklace is just the thing to throw in the mix with your gold pieces to give them an elevated beach vibe (and it’s now under $10).

Old Navy’s cotton/rayon tunic (only $10.50!) makes a sweet cover-up or tuck it into jeans and roll up the sleeves for an easy ’70s-style jeans companion.

I love a big cotton scarf like this with black or cream dresses, as a sarong, and even more tailored black coats later on. Plus it’s 60% off.

H & M’s pretty shirred dress fit the perfect fancy free spirit piece.

These sweet raffia shoes are great with floral dresses, jeans or any of the pieces here. And they’re telling a little bit of a Clergerie story.

Such a great natural cotton and indigo dress! I would wear it with all-black Birks or  those blue ones from yesterday, or maybe the huaraches or raffia ones.
