Since there is still a very limited brick-and-mortar situation in New York, today I felt like snooping around some of my favorite small business sites to see what’s new, and I encourage you to look around each one more carefully at your leisure. Frankie Shop was always one of my neighborhood go-tos because there is always something to want at every price (fun fact: there’s also one in Paris). I am eyeing so many things here, like these pants and this incredible leather hobo bag but this gorgeous jade maillot is what I am needing in my life right now.
I love so many cool retro shapes on the small-but-mighty Sunglass Museum site, but these slightly ’80s/Annie Hall hybrid shades are already a great price for polarized lenses, and are now 25% off.
I really miss lounging around on the couch at Edith Machinist with coffee in hand, just shooting the breeze. Good news is she is now taking one hour virtual or in-person appointments. Check out these just-added classic Carlos Falchi leather pouches which would be perfect for tucking into a tote. And of course don’t forget my beloved I Love New York tee!
Ten Thousand Things has a chic little jewel box of a store in the West Village, filled with incredible fine jewelry featuring hand-carved stones and one-of-a-kind bench pieces. If you’re in New York, they are now taking curbside appointments and you can have the classic chiclet custom made (on gold or silver chain) or go for these perfect little silver “berries” that are just right for summer.
We featured Alicia Yates, co-owner of the fabulous shop, Thank You Have a Good Day a few months ago. They have recently gone digital and still carry cool brands like Bode and Augustine Amsterdam, and also have a great selection of hand-picked vintage. But I love this new house-made monogram tote that is both chic and fun in all its rough hewn charm.
Another of my usual stops in the neighborhood is Assembly, which always has a great mix of its house brand, under-the-radar labels and curated vintage. These easy sandals have elastic straps which makes them incredibly squishy and comfortable, while still providing some good height.
We also featured Otherwild founder Rachel Berks right here in 2018. She’s got a fun mix of housewares, clothing, beauty products and jewelry. This checkerboard high-waisted panty and matching bra could pass for a fun bikini in a pinch.
A few doors down from Piccolini is the chic Mott NYC which is an art gallery/clothing shop/hair salon owned by husband team fine art photographer John Arsenault and designer Rafal Swiader. This superb biker wallet bag also comes in classic black and is a cool way to carry just the essentials.
The first time I hopped on the subway and headed to Front General in Dumbo, I was so taken with the sheer volume of incredibly curated vintage that I was almost too overwhelmed to shop! I have a perfect white tee and a vintage Celine bucket bag from here, and here’s a really good canvas shoulder bag and classic tote. But the vintage silver jewelry selection is one of the best and vast I’ve ever seen and this double buckle Hermés ring is just the very tip of the tip of the iceberg.
