Top 5: Anka Itskovich, Photographer/Stylist

Anka and I have known each other for years since we both come from the magazine world. She was at fancy glossies like Bazaar and Marie Claire where she was a stylist, and she really is probably the coolest most un-stylist-y stylist I have ever met. First of all, she has so few possessions,  it’s kind of mind-bogging. I went to her apartment which makes Marie Kondo look like a hoarder — a laptop on an otherwise bare desk, just a few ethnic bags, a couple of pairs of jeans, really not much at all (and honestly I think of and envy her every time I step into my own brimming-at-the-seams closet). Anyway, she started her genius street-style Instagram account, @the_line_up, in 2013, where she celebrates all kinds of people and their unique styles —  If you’re expecting to see your usual perfect, trendy street style, think again — this is the real deal, depicting gritty street style from all walks of life — she’s definitely more into unique personalities than what’s happening in fashion. So I’m extra excited to see what Anka’s picks are since I know she really really chose them carefully! Enjoy!

 1. Classic Tevas “About two summers ago, as I was meandering in Soho, working on my street beat NYFW assignment for vogue.com, I had to hide out from a torrential downpour and just by chance I ran into Opening Ceremony, where much to my surprise I discovered Teva (as they’ve just released their Teva/OC collaboration.) Now these are my most favorite sandals – not only are they incredibly inexpensive, they are adjustable and light, they can be worn in any weather and with any outfit and they are the most comfortable shoes I have ever worn!”
2.   Ten Thousand Things pearl necklace “I’ve had the same pair of small rose hoop earrings that I got in Kerala, India about a decade ago and I literally haven’t taken them off since the day I bought them form a local craftsman, same with my lucky charms necklace in coral, ruby and citrine on a thin gold chain that I wear as protective amulets …BUT, I’ve had my eye on this
for quite a while….oh, cravings !”
3. Perfumera Curandera Jungle Rose Mariri “I prefer perfume instead of accessories (with only one exception of lucky charms) and this one is my favorite, All the elixirs in Perfumera’s line come from the Amazon Rain Forest and The Andean Mountains and are imbued with healing properties. This particular scent contains Amazonian Magnolia and Piri Piri, flowers used in potions for love and protection – a divine armor for the streets of New York ;)”
4.  Vintage Huipil top “For a stylist, I’m not much of a shopper, but there’s one particular kind of a top that I’ve been using for years to enhance and elevate literally every single outfit – The Huipil. I have a small collection of these multicolored and intricately embroidered tunics usually worn by indigenous women in Central America and their intricate and meaningful designs are exactly my kind of ‘couture’.”

5.  Sylvia Heisel iPhone case “I shoot everything for @the_line_up with my iPhone and I love my iPhone case 3D custom printed by heisel.co. Sylvia is a tech pioneer and one of the first few fashion designers using technology based materials and working with 3D printed wearables.”

Another vote for an apartment tour! She clearly has an amazing eye and an appreciation for color and craft, so I am curious to see how that is incorporated in a minimalist apartment! I am also dying to see the lucky charms necklace…

    Anka,
My first time ever writing on here, but i would love to know what you are wearing on top and where is it from? Is it a sleeveless cardie/vest? I can see a faint placket.
I love the ethnic jacquard knit and its colors!
