The Edit: Sézane

The self-proclaimed “First French fashion brand to function entirely online” opened a big store/showroom/cafe on Elizabeth Street in Nolita.  My initial reaction upon walking in was “Oh you’re like the French Madewell,” and the salesgirl seemed a little taken aback (I’m not sure why since Madewell is everything right now). After another visit and a little more investigating I stand by my Madewell analogy and wanted to pick so many more pieces but most of them are sold out already! I tried on this fun fluffy fake fur that would work in so many situations like most of their stuff  –fancy, denim weekend, work.

A quilted chain-strap bag has become a Parisian staple and this pink suede one is extra cute and special.
We all need a versatile black dress and here’s one with chic long sleeves and a cool length.

There are so many kinds of jeans here but a sailor style with gold buttons is a cool alternative to trousers.
An ankle-strap bootie in rich brown looks at home with some cropped blue jeans or tights and a midi dress.

I’m super into silk blouses right now and particularly the red version gives a little pop to anything (and feels extra ’70s).
The Sam bag is almost Jerome Dreyfus-y and the leopard version is just the most fun.

    Yup.
Totally agree with the madewell analogy!
Did you try on the blue furry coat?
So good. Wondering if I should size up or down..
If it comes back in stock.

Speaking of which…can you do another Madewell roundup winter edition? 🙂

Funny reaction, esp since Madewell carries Sezane occasionally!

Exactly! Sounds like she was throwing a little French snoot your way. 😉

I need to get there ASAP. You are so right Madewell Francaise !
And while you’re at it can you please explain what happened to J. Crew
while Madewell was sneaking past it in sales and popularity ? Is it us
    or is it them?

      It’s them!

J Crew became more expensive while not offering quality for the price. They got caught up in the Cult of Jenna, which I liked as an aesthetic, but it’s definitely a ‘lot’, and if it’s not for you, you wouldn’t think to shop there, even if there were individual pieces that might have worked for you.

I just don’t get the Madewell love. It’s so…. basic, which I understand is the point. But to me that’s nothing special. Different strokes for different folks I suppose.

I may be way wrong, but doesn’t Sezane manufacture in the same factories as APC but at a cheaper than Madewell price point? I also think the top photo shows much more style than I’d find at JCrew, Madewelk, Banana, Gap, etc.

I started shopping with Sezane a little over a year ago….I’ve gotten everything from a coat to tops and lingerie. I’ve loved everything. Their customer service is pretty fantastic, too.
