The Edit: Old Navy

I remember when I worked at Harper’s Bazaar in the nineties and Old Navy (and Gap, for that matter) were the cool fast-fashion places. There were chic little wool coats and this one amazing fake lizard bag that everyone had. I still have some designer collaboration shoes from Gap but I can’t remember who the designer was — high heeled desert booties and some platform clog sandals that have stood the test of time. I don’t think of either one of them in that way anymore, even though they still deliver the simple, super affordable goods.  But this classic coat kind of reminds me of what used to get us all excited in the old days, and then I found a few more goodies.

Here’s a very A.P.C.-ish velour sweatshirt for under thirty bucks.
And a cute velvet bootie to wear with jeans and maxi dresses.

This pretty floral dress could solve a lot of what-t0-wear-to-the-party  questions and would look really good under a tweed blazer, too.
I’ve been wanting a fake fur leopard jacket and how perfect (and affordable) is this one?

A simple pair of kick flare pants will take you through all the seasons. And at $20, you can buy a couple!
The cut of this streamlined blazer reminds me of the one Diane Keaton wears in Manhattan.

Their classic saddlebag is just the right shape, and for all you non-leather wearers, it’s faux.
And finally a cool no-frills European-looking sneaker in the vein of Superega.

The platform sandal collab was with none other than Pierre Hardy. I had two pairs- a chestnut brown and an army green canvas and literally wore them into the ground.

I don’t think Gap has the cache to even get such a big name French shoe designer to collab these days- but those shoes were truly the best.

I was going to say the same thing, Darling! I was afraid of the platform, however, and didn’t get them 😉

I’ve heard positive buzz about the Pixie Pant. Gives one a good butt, apparently. And the leopard coat must be sold out, or else the link is broken. My inner Carrie Donovan is bummed.

I had them too!!! I even remember walking into the Gap on the Kings Road in London and buying them. I felt so triumphant.

Me too!! I love mine to death. They’re just about to give up the ghost I fear, but they’ve been one of my favourite pairs of shoes for years.
