I’ve been working out to various DVDs every day for years, but for only 30 minutes max (otherwise I would never do it). I’ve done everything from Brazil Butt Lift Bum Bum (it makes me laugh just writing that) to Denise Austin’s Pilates (only 20 minutes!) Now I’m into Ballet Beautiful with Mary Helen Bowers, who trained Natalie Portman for Black Swan. I’ve downloaded the streaming videos on the site (the 18 minute cardio workout is my favorite). Her Cardio Fat Burn DVD just came out and the arm and leg ones are pretty awesome too. I also tried the Esmonde Essentrics Barre Workout and thought it was a joke until I could barely walk the next day (in a good way). Now I’m hooked.
I used to do all this ballet barefoot, but I wanted to feel like a real ballerina (even for 18 minutes). I figured I should get some shoes like Mary Helen’s. My friend Tiffany, who’s studied ballet for years, told me to get Capezio canvas Juliets, and make sure they fit as tightly as possible (ithey should fit like gloves — your toes should feel together and side by side, never overlapping). Now I feel like a real pro.
