Beauty Roundup: Products That Deliver

As I was returning a pricey product to Sephora the other day because it really did less than nothing, I decided to compile a list of the ones that actually do what they say they do. Since I’m obsessed with Canadian beauty line The Ordinary (which, rumor has it, will be opening a store on Prince Street in Nolita this Thursday!), I will start with its Lactic Acid 10% that is ridiculously affordable and really exfoliates, making skin glow. If you think 10% is too much, there’s also a 5% solution. What about you? Try anything amazingly transformative lately?

I know I wrote about this on Friday but I can’t say it enough: Too Faced Lip Injection Extreme really does make lips fuller!!!
I tried some Dr. Brandt Needles No More No More Baggage eye cream the other day at Sephora and I could feel it working right away. When I looked in the mirror I could actually see a difference so of course I came back hours later and made it mine.
My friend Liz swears by The Face Shop Chia Seed Moisture Recharge Cream. As she says,“Ever since I started using this, people keep asking, “What are you using on your skin? Did you have work done?!” Despite its name, it’s a gel, not a cream— light but incredibly hydrating (more so than even La Mer), it locks in moisture all day and night, giving your skin a dewy glow. And it’s only 20 bucks!”
I, of course, asked the beauty-obsessed Edith Machinist for a recommendation and she said “I would include YSL BB Creme Skintone Perfector. It really works wonders evening out skin imperfections, removing dullness and making you look “camera-ready” Plus it has an spf of 25.”
And finally, my buddy Anne says that this body wash completely cleared up her chest breakouts!

Good old Clarins Beauty Flash Balm. If you’ve had a late night, or a red-eye flight, I swear it makes you look like you’ve had a full 8 hour sleep.

I’ve been absolutely loving the Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Concentrate. My skin has been super glowy, not nearly as dry as usual for this time of year, and I’ve noticed a significant reduction in blemishes ever since I started using it regularly! Highly, highly recommend.

I am super impressed with True Botanicals, especially the Antioxidant Booster. A couple of months ago I started using their cleanser, toner, face oil and the booster from their clear line and my skin has never looked better. I tend to breakout on my chin and now that happens less frequently. And if I do breakout these products clear things up quickly. The Antioxidant Booster is magical stuff.

Ladies, does anyone have real-world views on pricey SK-II Facial Essence? I am tempted to splurge on it as a self-gift as I am close to a milestone birthday–but I am not one to spend a lot on beauty products. I know things work differently for different people, but would you give it a thumbs up or a thumbs down? Andrea, that chia gel is intriguing!

I am also interested by the SK-II facial line. I’d love feedback!

A great alternative is Missa Time Revolution Essence – it’s often referred to as the less expensive alternative to SK-11. A great site to check out is if you’re interested in the Korean Beauty . Prepare yourself to fall down a rabbit hole of information though.

I have mild Rosacea and have recently converted to Dr Jart’s Cicapair line. The color correcting cream is great! Really covers well! I just started using the serum/cream and hope using the whole line will up my results. They’re super soothing and seem to be working well. I also love their water replenishment sheet masks.

ZO Ossential Advanced Radical Night Repair. I wrote a review on the ZO site to describe it. It is an absolute game changer. The other day a colleague of mine actually said I looked like I was getting younger. I also like the True Botanicals Vitamin C powder mentioned above. Together these products have faded brown spots, softened wrinkles and restored overall glow.

Lancer Caviar Lime Acid Peel is beautiful, fresh skin in a jar! I received a sample of it, and although it’s pricey, I plan to purchase more.

I’m really curious about “The Ordinary”…the prices are great and the reviews fantastic.

Love The Ordinary as well, and their slightly higher priced line, Hylamide. Hylamide SubQ Anti-age serum & SubQ Eyes are the best things in the world, hands down. Also The Ordinary Vitamin C & HA Moisturizing Factor. Deciem, the parent company, can do no wrong.

I’ve been using Glossier’s Milky Jelly Cleanser as my nighttime face wash for about 3 weeks and my skin is transformed! Smoother and more hydrated! Plus it feels amazing when you rub it into your skin.

Drunk Elephant everything, but especially the TLC Glycolic Framboos Night Serum and the C-Firma Day Serum. I’ve used or tried just about everything and this is all I care about now. I’ve been giving away my other products!

Also, I just rediscovered the excellent L’Oreal Magic Skin BB cream. Goes on white and adapts to your skin tone. It’s cheap! I own just about every top-rated foundation and this is what I’ve been grabbing every morning. Maybe because the D.E. has my skin looking so good, idk, but you should try it.
