Beauty Roundup: Is Your Hair Really Clean?

I keep hearing about shampoos that aren’t really shampoos (i.e. they don’t have suds) and how they’re supposed to be in so good for your hair. The thing is, they don’t seem to actually clean the scalp because I feel like maybe it’s just conditioner, but then the hair could look great so what to do?? I just don’t feel like my “hair” is clean unless my scalp is — let’s face it, this is where the dirty happens and where the smell starts. So I need to always feel like I am cleaning from the top down. For starters, I recommend hairdresser (she’s amazing and I’ve known for years) Younghee Kim’s Essential Rinse after shampooing because it really does clarify everything and gets rid of any residue left by shampoos and conditioners. I like the original but the mint is super refreshing, too!

I am all over anything with the name Scalp Revival!! I just picture the charcoal and coconut oil washing away any nastiness!
This serum is for creating a nice little hair breeding ground and claims to promote density and growth. Plus it’s on big sale so why not??

Here’s a beachy shampoo that clears the scalp and conditions at the same time. Nice.
I also love ACV rinse, which clears things up and makes hair shine.

And an un-sexy medicinal solution is my favorite dandruff/crusty scalp shampoo. Really, I haven’t found anything that works better for that.
My friend Anne raves about this stuff. “My scalp itches when my hair is dirty — I know it’s gross, but it’s true — and this makes it squeaky clean and just aaaahhhh!” Sold.

You totally just sent me down a rabbit hole with that tub of Christophe Robin stuff! Must! Have! All! The Things!

I’ve found Lush Rehab shampoo works great to get my scalp really clean. Also no animal testing and doesn’t contain any animal by-products.

I’d love to hear more about the ACV rinse–I have a bottle of that exact stuff but I’ve only used it twice because it feels like my hair ends up oily afterwards?? I don’t even have oily hair to begin with.

I have a sample of the Christophe Robin salt scrub and it’s weirdly satisfying and makes your hair feel squeaky-clean and very light. The downside is that it makes me all weird and hoardy; you glop it on your head and then scrub it in until the salt melts but chunks of salt tend to fly around and I always feel like I should be trying to grab them!

I’d forgotten about T-Fal, which we always had in the house when I was a kid. Have they solved The Smell yet?

I think you’re thinking of T-Gel, the dark amber one, which smells vile, but T-Sal is totally fine!
